Modding is a process
July 1, 2009 by Zyxpsilon
Science, what else!

Most people would define gameplay balance as being caused by the ruleset and its conditions, i possibly never will for a few reasons;

- Since i am a modder i must know what it means and can be done to alter it.

- The structure is already there and whatever choices someone else made is a direct consequence of carefully designed activity, results, situations that allow it to become 1)Challenging 2)Interesting 3)Entertaining and what else.

- That fragile concept of...

Get yourselves some artistic sensitivities and whole bunch of cohesive ideas because you'll need both in huge amounts. It's one of those conditional capacity that even the best of modders can't miss even in small quantities.
Your results will be directly caused by how much thoughts you put in. You need a plan. Predictable, designed, composite of decisions, reasoned.

90% of gameplay is context, its appeal is found in soooo many assets that even a splash of colors wrongfully dumped on the UI w...

You want files, you got files.
You know the files, you CAN mod the files.

Understood, noobs?

DDS; Seriously, i dunno why they would bother. It's an indirect PNG compressed in such a manner that the layers are identified differently. Well sure - there's also the DXT5 format and whatever mipmapping tricks you'd care to dump in... but if DL discarded their use for similar re-texturing process of models, can you justify the extra bytes in my folders? The resource animations are great, when ...

Strangely enough, i can write too.
In fact, everyone else has an interpretation of even numbered articles in such a blog. Once you've learned how to type your favorite alphabet and can identify text from words, instead of speaking you can express sounds by letters.
Education is a process that gives the power to share your thoughts with others. This game is no different. It tries to tell you something - you listen or you look.

STR; The cultural difference between Anglos & the rest of the...

Where else in StarDockia are personal Blog articles posted to.... since some comments on my "Modding" section seem to be issued out of context and observed as Forum threads?

I could also warn in the text headers that what i write on my Blog is not meant to be generalistic or interpreted without direct reference -- they're even titled in a numerical sequence already.

Confusing, somehow.

There's only one way to provide customization features to users... design & the actual means to alter whatever resources that execute it. Code integration requires planning and structural assets. Some are located in an exit call by a goto loop, others declare how this activity must take place. You're in or you're out of an internal process driven by procedures, functions & declarations. The loop has the last decision to evaluate - win or lose with indications from or by multiple files.

Get something in your thick heads, right now; You are no match for my modding proficiency unless you WORK at it constantly and have been doing it for years. Unless...

-- You can prove it with megabytes worth anyone's attention in the Library.

-- Your reputations precede the results you dare(d) sharing with others; MrKorx, FoxThree, General Pants, LogicSequence, Macmatt, DSep, AFRonin, Kryo (sorry if i have forgotten anyone else important!) and - so - on.

How arrogant on my par...

It simply doesn't matter what you want or do, it all comes down to this important first step; unless you know exactly what the game is all about, you'll never figure out the essentials.

Where to begin? Principles, features, concepts, manuals, tutorials, forums, other mods?

NONE of the above, baby.

Play the thing, once - twice - beyond and -- again. Still don't get it, do you? Too bad, start all over. Victories & Defeats aren't the last screens you'll ever see if you're serious ...

The gameplay challenges found in Galactic Civilization & its expansions are pre-defined by coders.

Mods allow anyone to alter these concepts extensively, right?

WRONG.

Unless someone does it.

I've done my part with X-Worlds & CoSH .

There are forum threads which already explain how & why -- this article was simply used to state these facts before i delve deeper into what the activity implicates such as;

1-- Know the game.
